‘I am so impressed with the Kookaburra Kids programs.  The activity days, camps, and Connect program allow a respite for young people aged 8 to 18 in families affected by mental illness.  Importantly, these programs empower these young people and help to build their resilience.  I have seen the dedication of staff and volunteers in action. Being a former police officer with PTSD, and a mum, I only wish that my two children had an opportunity to participate in the Kookaburra Kids programs.’

Belinda is an international keynote speaker, author, and former New South Wales Police Inspector. Her 18 year career as a police officer included undercover operations, major crime and homicide investigation, and, as police hostage negotiation Team Leader at both domestic and Counter Terrorist level.

Belinda was one of the five Hostage Negotiation Team Leaders during the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

In 2005 Belinda was medically retired due to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder due to cumulative traumas in her policing career.  In 2014 her best-selling memoir ‘Under Siege’ was published.

‘Under Siege’ outlines Belinda’s policing experiences and the ‘lived experience’ with PTSD. Belinda is a Board member of the not for profit organisation – FearLess PTSD Australian New Zealand .

Belinda is a passionate advocate of the importance of prevention and early intervention , as well as the provision of effective management tools to identify and address mental health issues.  She also has a keen interest and extensive experience in the empowerment of people in the areas of Confliction Resolution, Negotiation and Crisis Management skills.
