BIG SISTER FOUNDATION GRANT GIVES KOOKABURRA GIRLS A NEW OUTLOOK

Kookaburra Kids programs at camp have always been concentrated around respite, fun and early intervention. Together with an age appropriate mental health program the camps have proven to be a great success. Despite this we are always looking at new ways of mentoring the kids in a fun and healthy way.  This year thanks to $24,000 from Big Sister Foundation we are now implementing a young women’s enrichment program working on building their resilience, confidence and self esteem. We also plan to implement a grooming and hygiene element to the program which we have found is a big area our Kookaburra girls need assistance with.  We look forward to reporting back on the effectiveness of this program at the end of 2014. Additionally we will be looking at funding opportunities to implement something similar with the boys.
