On Tuesday June 14, a group of our Kookaburra Kids were invited to an exclusive pre-sale unboxing of the new toys in Big W’s annual toy sale.
The team at Big W was motivated to do something special for these kids after hearing a recent interview with Kookaburra Kids CEO Pam Brown on ABC radio.
Sally Macdonald, CEO BIG W, said, “Our famous BIG W Toy Sale is our biggest event of the whole year and we’re delighted to welcome Kookaburra Kids to our Macquarie store today to share in some fun. BIG W is absolutely committed to supporting Australian families to live well in every way which is why we are proud to provide a helping hand to wonderful organisations and causes like Kookaburra Kids.”
Pam Brown, CEO of Kookaburra Kids, said “The goal of the Kookaburra Kids program is to provide these vulnerable kids with the opportunity to take a break from their often stressful lives, access support, mental health education, and of course give them the chance to just be kids.”
The event included unboxing new toys, which were then distributed to the children. The kids were also asked their opinions on which toys will be the hottest items this year. Big W staff, alongside Kookaburra Kids volunteers and staff, assisted the kids, as well as joining in the unpacking fun.
“Opportunities like this are wonderful, as it not only puts smiles on the kids’ faces, it also instils hope in them that their future is bright and that the community is behind them” Pam Brown said.
On behalf of our Kookaburra Kids we would like to thank the team at Big W for bringing smiles to the children’s faces, but also for helping to raise awareness of the affect mental illness has on the whole family.
