The Third camp of 2017 saw 28 kids heading off to Sydney’s Northern Beaches with a weekend of solid fun awaited them.

Arriving on the Friday night, the kids and 14 volunteer leaders enjoyed dinner before diving into some activities to break the ice, giving everyone the chance to get to know their cabin mates. After a light supper it was off to bed for a good night’s sleep to prepare for the days ahead.

After a hearty breakfast on Saturday, the campers separated into morning Chat Groups before moving off to their first activity. Three groups – Pink, Blue and Yellow – would rotate between three activities over the next two days. Legendary Laser tag, Amazing Abseiling and the Fearsome Flying Fox.

After lunch, all 28 kids took part in the introduction to the Taking Flight Program, which specifically meets the needs of those transitioning from school to tertiary study or the workforce. The program helps these adolescents traverse what can be a difficult and confusing time of change for a lot of young people by offering support and advice concerning; career paths, HSC Subjects, future employment and education plans. This support comes in the form of Industry advocates, mentoring, education and training workshops and financial assistance.

A quick afternoon tea and the kids are throwing themselves back into exhilarating and challenging activities before settling down for the night with popcorn and a movie.
The kids kicked off Sunday with breakfast before settling down to discuss mental health in Chat Group before the last activity of the weekend.

This camp was special for some of our campers as it was their last camp as a school aged Kookaburra Kids. Seven kids graduating from the Kookaburra Kids program taking with them everything they’ve learned from the camps, activity days and leaders. Several of them have been with us for many years with one – Jessica – attending her very first camp 10 years ago!

Although they may be graduating from the program they will always be a part of the Kookaburra Kids family!

A huge thank you to all our staff, volunteer and kids for making this camp an incredible success full of fun times and unforgettable memories!
