September was a huge month of fun for our kids. Including our country kids. Three years ago we embarked on a partnership with CentaCare and Commonwealth Carers Respite Centre to ensure kids in the country didn’t miss out. From the first camp 2 years ago with 13 kids to now, 40 kids travelling to Manly for a weekend by the beach. The 40 kids and 19 volunteer leaders stayed at Royal Far West in Manly with loads of activities to keep them busy including a day at Luna Park.
Kookaburra Kids CEO Pam Brown was delighted at the increase in numbers attending as well as the cooperation and collaboration of services from the not for profit sector and government funded organisations. “Services working together to ensure the kids don’t miss out is a new approach in this sector. Each organisation specialising in the service they provide and working alongside each other is an efficient use of resources and experience” Ms Brown said “Additionally it is a big thing for kids of any age to spend a weekend away from home let alone with other kids and leaders they do not know. To have 40 kids attend this camp is again a testament to the workers involved in putting this camp together. We appreciate the support from House with No Steps and Royal Far West who have also contributed financially.” Kookaburra Kids look forward to next year where it is possible there will need to be two camps given the increase in numbers.
