KOOKABURRA KIDS CEO PAM BROWN IS SUTHERLAND SHIRE’S 2017 CITIZEN OF THE YEAR!

Kookaburra Kids is proud to announce that our CEO Pam Brown has been honoured as Sutherland Shire’s 2017 Citizen of the Year! Pam has been an active and outstanding contributor to the Sutherland Shire community for over a decade, dedicating significant time and expertise in both paid and unpaid community work, including her work with Kookaburra Kids – supporting children living in families affected by mental illness.

In response to receiving the award, Pam Brown said “I am honoured to have been named Citizen of the Year in the 2017 Sutherland Shire Australia Day Awards. I acknowledge and congratulate my fellow nominees who, like me, strive for a Shire where the community looks after those in need or who are vulnerable in some way.”

“Through my role at Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation, my team and I support local children, and children from further afield, who live in families affected by mental illness. Knowing these kids and what many of them face every day is very humbling. They motivate me daily to build a stronger and more wide-spread program so we can help more kids better cope with the difficulties they face.”

“Local volunteers play a key role in the support Kookaburra Kids provides and I am, and will remain, passionate about encouraging the community to volunteer to help make the world a better place. In my long-term involvement with Caringbah Rotary, I am proud to work with a dedicated group of community-minded locals who give freely of their time to support other local community organisations in their vital work. It’s not difficult to continue to volunteer when you have such a wonderful bunch of people who motivate you every day.

“My wonderful family have taken on my love of community involvement and all volunteer their time to community organisations. I thank them for their passion and community spirit, but most of all their patience and support for me in all of the activities and events in which I am involved.”

“Thank you to Sutherland Council for recognising the work of community citizens and groups through these wonderful awards. I am honoured to have been recognised by Council and will continue to dedicate time and energy into working for the community and encouraging others to feel the same satisfaction that I do by volunteering their time.”
