Sutherland Shire Council’s 42nd Annual Mayoral Debutante Charity Ball Raises $22,045 for Kookaburra Kids!
On Saturday the 25th May, Sutherland Shire Council held the 42nd annual Sutherland Shire Mayoral Debutante Charity Ball.
“This year was the 42nd Sutherland Shire Mayoral Debutant Charity Ball and over the years we’ve really try to modernise the event and make it about celebrating the achievements of all of our young people in supporting our local community,” said Sutherland Shire Mayor, Carmelo Pesce.
Hundreds of guests flocked to the newly revamped Sutherland Entertainment Centre to celebrate the debutantes and their partners from nine Sutherland Shire high schools. The event also attracted wide support from the local business community who, together with the debutantes and guests raised money for a chosen local charity; this year it was Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation.
“There is a proud tradition of choosing a local not for profit to be the Ball charity partner and this year I was really pleased to have selected Kookaburra Kids,” said Mayor Pesce.
“The Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation provides support for children living in families affected by mental illness and do amazing work providing fun recreational activities and educational camps that give kids a break, in a positive and safe environment where they get the opportunity to meet other children in similar families and situations.”
Kookaburra Kids Foundation CEO Pam Brown said it was an honour to be chosen as the charity for the 2018 Debutante Ball.
“It was a wonderful night that represented youth, community and government coming together to support a group of inspiring young people and at the same time raising funds for the Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation,” she said.
“I would like to thank Mayor Pesce for this opportunity and congratulate Sutherland Shire Council on an outstanding event.”
Kookaburra Kids would like to thank Sutherland Shire Council and the students from the nine Sutherland Shire Schools for supporting Kookaburra Kids and helping to raise awareness and funds for our programs – supporting kids living in families affected by mental illness.
