Kookaburra Kids Team in PAYCE Sutherland 2 Surf Team Raises Over $10,000

The weather may have been chilly on Sunday morning, but the Kookaburra Kids team in this year’s PAYCE Sutherland 2 Surf was a sea of yellow t-shirts and big smiles as they prepared to run (or walk) the 11kms from Sutherland to Cronulla.

The team of 23 Sutherland Shire community members, were committed to completing the course to raise awareness and funds to go towards the Kookaburra Kids program. Asking their friends and families to sponsor them in the race, the team managed to raise over $10,000 for Kookaburra Kids – the largest amount raised by any team participating in this year’s PAYCE Sutherland 2 Surf.

Marnie Smith, from Miranda, was delighted with the time it took her to complete the course, achieving a personal best, but said “…the best win was knowing that as a team we raised over $10 000, meaning Kookaburra Kids can keep up the wonderful support and camps they offer to the kids.”

Others – like Kookaburra Kids CEO Pam Brown, made it a family event, walking with her daughter and 18 month old granddaughter, completing the course to a cheer of Kookaburra Kids supporters, in just under two hours.

John Stapleton, from Finance and Leasing Solutions, a local business owner and long-time supporter of Kookaburra Kids, sponsored the team, saying he wanted to help raise awareness for the charity.

“The main aim was to raise awareness for the great work Kookaburra Kids does, not only in our community but across NSW”.

“It was also a fun day and great community event, I’m looking forward to next year’s race”.

A big thank you to all our PAYCE Sutherland 2 Surf team members,  for being part of our team, braving the weather and raising awareness and funds, helping to support our Kookaburra kids. We hope to see you next year.
