Empowering Young Carers

Meet Miyu (right of featured image above), our Young Carer Community Outreach Coordinator in Cairns. This newly created role, made possible through our partnership with Wellways Australia, will see Miyu working collaboratively with young carers attending Kookaburra Kids camps in the Cairns region. These remarkable young people often serve as the primary carer for a family member struggling with mental illness.

Through the Wellways Carer Gateway program https://www.wellways.org/our-services/carer-gateway/ and our mental health education initiatives, Miyu will help these young carers create action plans for their caregiving roles at home, empowering them to live happier and more resilient lives.

We are incredibly proud of our dedicated staff and the amazing Kookaburra Kids who work tirelessly in their effort to break the cycle of family mental illness. Thank you Wellways Australia for partnering with us to make this vital work possible.
